Schneider, Large Art Deco Vase, Circa 1913–1922

This vase is an authentic Art Deco-era piece (circa 1913–1930) from the famous glassworks of the Schneider factory (founded by brothers Charles and Ernest Schneider in Épinay-sur-Seine).
Shape: This is a single-flower vase known as a "Berluze" or "swan neck", characterized by a pear- or bulb-shaped body topped by a very long, slender neck. Technique: Blown multilayer glass (often referred to as pâte de verre in everyday language). The design features internal yellow and powdery marbled shades, accented at the base with brown/chocolate-colored glass inlays forming lobes that rise up the body. Size: 61 cm is a particularly large and sought-after size. Large pieces (over 50 cm) were prestige items for the manufacturer. Signature: The engraved signature “Schneider”, clearly visible at the base of the body, is perfectly consistent with the authentic markings used by the glassworks for this line of pieces. The engraved Lorraine Cross and small vase—this double graphic mark (a small stylized vase accompanied by the Lorraine Cross) is the very first signature used by the Schneider brothers at the very beginning of their independent production, between 1913 and 1920–1922.
- Why the Cross of Lorraine? Before founding their own glassworks in Épinay-sur-Seine in 1913, Ernest and Charles Schneider grew up in Nancy and cut their teeth at the prestigious Daum factory. The Cross of Lorraine is a direct tribute to their artistic roots and the École de Nancy.
- What this means: Pieces bearing this very early graphic signature (paired with the name “Schneider” written out in full) are much rarer on the market than those from the years 1925–1930.
