The original label affixed to the back reads: "Sketch of the Town and Harbor of Boulogne-sur-Mer with the Adjacent Countryside, Taken in 1820 by W. G. Gold"
The work follows in the prestigious tradition of British topographical officers, foremost among whom is Colonel Charles Gold (an officer in the Royal Artillery, a hero of Waterloo, and a painter and draftsman listed in the Bénézit for his famous “oriental drawings”).
