Baroque Candlestick, Gilded Wood, 17th/18th Century
A very large candlestick with highly elaborate ornamentation. The base, shaped like a ribbon and a clamp, rests on three imposing volutes. A high rim supports a volute-shaped bulge. From there rises a baluster-style shaft decorated with acanthus leaves and pearls. The whole piece is crowned by a broad wick holder topped with a spout designed to hold a candle.
Louis XIV style, 17th/18th century.
Carved and gilded wood.
