The motif of wheat sheaves is not new in painting. Jean-François Millet, for example, depicts them behind the Gleaners(1857). The theme was depicted by Camille Pissarro in 1873 and 1876. The Wheat Stacks is the title of a series of Impressionist paintings by Claude Monet. The series focuses primarily on sheaves of wheat stacked into mounds that were located in a field near the artist’s home in Giverny, in the Eure department of Normandy.
