Scandinavian School. Alfred Broge, "the Little House By The Fjord"
Artist: Alfred Broge
Scandinavian School. Alfred Broge. Oil on canvas, “The Little House by the Fjord,” signed lower right “A. Broge.” 23.4 × 30.6 cm. Danish School.
On the back, on one of the stretcher bars, there are inscriptions indicating a location and an inventory number.
Karl-Harald-Alfred Broge (1870–1955) studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen under the guidance of landscape painter Rudolph Bissen (1846–1911).
Associated with Danish Realism and Naturalism, the artist became known for his warm, light-filled interior scenes, as well as for his rural and seascapes.
Broge regularly exhibited at the prestigious Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in Copenhagen throughout his career.
Our painting is a remarkable showcase of Alfred Broge’s talent; he frequently painted the Roskilde Fjord and the Isefjord, two iconic areas of Zealand where these small thatched-roof fishermen’s cottages, situated right on the water’s edge, formed the traditional coastal landscape.
Period wooden frame with gilded stucco. Good condition. A minor restoration was performed in the past on the foliage of the tree to the left of the house’s ridge.
980 euros.
