Round speaking box, with a domed, carved, and engraved lid, made of St. Lucia wood from Louis XIV period, Nancy region.
Text surrounding a beautiful relief decoration of a bird on an amati background, chiseled foliage scrolls, and: “I am dying of love for you.”
In good condition, with a slight gap on lid; however, if turned gently, the box closes securely.
Beautiful color and patina.
The name “Bois de Sainte-Lucie” (Prunus mahaleb) originates from a Minimes convent, Sainte-Lucie-du-Mont, situated on the heights of Sampigny (Meuse), where, in 17th century, a tradition of crafting objects emerged using wood from this species, which was found in abundance around the convent.
