Neo-egyptian-style Candlestick In Gilded Bronze
A rare gilded bronze candlestick, in the Neo-Egyptian style that has been highly prized since the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. The piece combines several emblematic symbols of ancient Egypt:
A winged sun disk (reminiscent of the wings of the protective scarab/falcon) forming the circular base, with fan-shaped engraved decoration imitating feathers.
A rearing cobra (uraeus)—a symbol of royalty and divine protection—emerging from the center of the candleholder’s bowl.
A pharaoh’s head wearing the nemes headdress, suspended as a pendant beneath the spout/arm of the candleholder.
Cylindrical body adorned with a diamond-patterned design (guilloché style) topped by a wide flange designed to catch the wax.
The candlestick is hallmarked (initials visible on the back, HP, likely a mark of the bronze artist Henri Picard
