Large Pair Of Sevres Porcelain Vases With The Château Des Tuilleries Mark, 19th Century
An exceptional and significant pair of lidded Sèvres porcelain vases, dating from the 19th century, with a remarkable height of 56 cm.
Baluster-shaped, both vases feature a sumptuous Sèvres blue ground, richly enhanced with gilding. The necks, shoulders, lower sections, and bases are adorned with friezes of palmettes, scrollwork, foliage, and floral motifs executed in gold.
The bodies are entirely decorated with large, hand-painted polychrome scenes, which are particularly detailed. They depict lively genre scenes featuring figures and horses, alternating with charming landscapes, architecture, waterways, and vegetation, in the style of 18th-century French compositions.
The quality of the painting, the richness of the color palette, and the abundance of gold highlights give this pair a particularly decorative character.
The vases retain their matching porcelain lids, with blue backgrounds and gilded decoration, topped with elegant pine-cone-shaped handles.
They rest on tall blue porcelain pedestals richly gilded, topped by substantial gilded bronze quadrangular bases that are finely crafted.
Château des Tuileries SealOne of the pieces bears, beneath its base, a remarkable red, crowned seal reading “Château des Tuileries”, clearly visible in our photographs.
Other handwritten marks in blue are also present beneath the various pieces.
Following expert appraisal, this pair has been definitively identified as Sèvres porcelain. The Tuileries seal is, moreover, a particularly interesting aspect of its history and deserves special mention.
The pair forms a particularly spectacular ceremonial set due to its large size, the quality of its paintings, the depth of the blue, the extensive gilding, and its gilded bronze mounts.
