19th-century Blue Ceramic Kerosene Lamp Signed "ch. Ficquenet Sevres"

A very beautiful and significant 19th-century oil lamp, featuring a glazed ceramic body in a remarkable turquoise blue, bearing the handwritten signature “Ch. Ficquenet – Sèvres” on the base.

The baluster-shaped body is entirely adorned with a rich Far Eastern-inspired relief decoration, composed of geometric and stylized motifs. It is flanked by two elegant zoomorphic handles also made of blue ceramic.

The lamp features a substantial gilded bronze frame that is particularly decorative: an openwork base with scrollwork, and a neck and crown richly chiseled with foliage motifs.

It has retained its beautiful original frosted and engraved glass shade, tulip-shaped with a scalloped rim, adorned with a delicate floral design. The presence of this antique glass shade complements the piece particularly well.

The signature Ch. Ficquenet, Sèvresis an interesting feature of this piece. Charles Ficquenet is documented as a ceramicist and decorator active in Sèvres during the 19th century. The mention of “Sèvres,” however, should not automatically be confused with a mark from the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres.

This lamp stands out for the intensity of its blue, the quality of its relief decoration, the prominence of its gilded bronze frame, and the fact that it still has its original engraved glass.
