A 17th-century Crespina Di Montelupo, 28 Cm.

Artist: Montelupo Fiorentino
A splendid late 17th-century plate in Montelupo Fiorentino majolica, featuring the decorative style commonly known as "arlecchinate." The plate is characterized by its “Crespina” shape, featuring a double rim. This is a rarer plate shape for the Montelupo workshop, derived from contemporary models from Deruta or Faenza.
The male figure, dressed in clothing inspired by popular mid-17th-century styles, is depicted according to the unusual iconography of the covered hand, which could symbolize nobility, dignity, and self-control, or allude to membership in a specific order or secret brotherhood.

The plate is in optimal condition and shows only one chip on the border. No visible restorations.

It has a diameter of 28 cm and a foot height of 7 cm.

A certificate of authenticity is included with the sale.
