Pair Of Carlo X Walnut Nightstands From The First Half Of The 19th Century
A pair of Charles X-era nightstands of Italian origin, crafted entirely from solid walnut slabs and walnut veneer that highlight warm, dark, and contrasting flecks against an amber background—a typical effect of walnut wood—characterized by clean, geometric lines, a solid structure, and striking symmetry. It features rich wood grain that enhances the entire surface, both on the front and on both sides. The piece features flat, understated pilasters on either side of the front, decorated with thin, inlaid geometric fillets made of boxwood. The top has clean edges that protrude slightly from the body of the piece and is also inlaid with fillets; on the front are three drawers, the first being smaller in size and positioned immediately below the top, which is veneered in walnut and continues onto the two sides; following this are the other two larger drawers, veneered in walnut; all three drawers are decorated with inlaid geometric fillets. Finally, the nightstands rest on four small saber-shaped legs, all made of solid walnut. Each drawer is fitted with its own circular central handle, which we have reattached in their original positions, as the original handles were missing and the remaining ones were broken. The nightstands have been completely restored in our restoration workshop; they are original in all their parts and are ready to be placed in any type of setting, whether modern or classic.
