This object is an antique wall-mounted crucifix-holy water font, dating from the 19th century and made in Naples, crafted from silver with unidentified hallmarks. The central cross is made of ebonized wood (or wood stained black to imitate ebony). The body of Christ (the Corpus), the upper cartouche bearing the inscription “INRI,” the decorative cross arms (canti), the halo, and the lower basin for holy water are made of embossed and cast silver. Beneath Jesus’ feet is the classic symbol of the skull and crossbones, representing Golgotha (the Place of the Skull) and Christ’s victory over death
