Small Louis XV-period chest of drawers, or “sauteuse,” stamped by Jean Nicolas Marchand, who was admitted as a master cabinetmaker in Paris around 1730–1735, and bearing the guild mark.
Chest of drawers in violet wood veneer, decorated with rocaille-style bronze pull handles and feet. The chest is topped with a Saint-Edouard gray marble top.

Jean Nicolas Marchand was one of Louis XV’s suppliers through Gilles Joubert, the King’s cabinetmaker, and Gaudreaux, cabinetmaker for the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne.
