Artist: Henry Detouche, Paris, 1854- 1913
Henri Julien Marie Detouche was first a student of his father, the history painter Laurent Detouche (1815–1882), and later of Ulysse Butin (1837–1883), a marine painter and engraver, who taught him the art of modeling and three-dimensional drawing as practiced by sculptors. He became a member of the Société des artistes français in 1889. He worked as a painter until his thirties, then turned to engraving. He traveled extensively.
