Solid Wood Carpenter's Workbench, 19th Century
Solid Wood Carpenter’s Workbench – 19th Century
A beautiful antique carpenter’s or cabinetmaker’s workbench, dating from the 19th century, crafted from solid wood and retaining a superb patina from years of use.
It features a thick, single-piece worktop, deeply marked by the passage of time and the various projects carried out over the decades. These traces, irregularities, and old marks give it its unique character today and bear witness to its use in craftsmanship.
The workbench rests on a sturdy, jointed, and braced base. It is equipped with its original wooden and metal screw clamps, as well as a side press. A compartmentalized drawer is located beneath the worktop, and a long, low shelf was used to store tools and materials.
The piece possesses a beautiful authenticity and has retained the spirit of a genuine craftsman’s workbench, without excessive alteration.
Today, this workbench can naturally retain its original function, but it can also be repurposed as a console table, display cabinet, sideboard, or decorative piece, particularly in a characterful interior, a boutique, or a gallery.
We prefer to simply describe it as solid wood, as the exact wood species is difficult to determine with certainty given its age and patina.
