Polychrome Plaster Masonic Marianne – Allegory Of France, 19th Century, Third Republic Statue

Important and rare Masonic Marianne in polychrome plaster, a French work from the mid-19th century.

The Republic is depicted as a young woman wearing a Phrygian cap and dressed in a long sea-green tunic embellished with gold trim. She holds a flag in her left hand, while her right hand holds a long sword pointed toward the ground. At her feet lies a fallen figure, integrated into a composition rich in symbolic attributes.

The circular base is adorned with a series of shields bearing various Masonic symbols, among which the square and compass are clearly visible. This iconography thus combines the symbols of Freemasonry with those of the French Republic, in a context characteristic of the Third Republic.

Marianne’s face, with her gaze raised, is particularly expressive.
