Elegant ormolu portico clock in Neoclassical style, dating from the second half of the 19th century;
Richly adorned with fluted columns, palmettes friezes and decorative pine cones.
The suspended circular dial features handsome Roman numerals on enameled cartouches, in a finely chased surround. The whole rests on an architectural base with geometric decoration and mascarons.
The top is surmounted by a covered vase decorated with garlands and plant intakes, accentuating the antique inspiration.
The exposed pendulum lends a great deal of lightness and refinement to the overall silhouette.
On the back of the base is an engraved inscription: "Exposition 1878 Paris", referring to the 1878 Paris Universal Exhibition, a major event in 19th-century French decorative arts and industry.
Very fine quality chasing and gilding.
