Antique Carved Sea-foam Pipe, Depicting A Woman's Bust, With Its Original Case – 19th Century

A beautiful antique pipe made of finely carved sea foam, dating from the second half of the 19th century, likely around 1870–1890.

The bowl depicts a highly detailed bust of an elegant woman. She wears earrings, a rich pleated ruff, and a remarkable hat adorned with feathers and a large bow. The facial features, hair, clothing, and feathers are carved with great finesse.

The pipe has a curved stem in a warm amber-brown color, likely made of amber. Natural discoloration resulting from its historic use is visible around the upper rim of the bowl.

The pipe is preserved in its original, perfectly fitting case. The case is covered in dark brown leather and lined with velvet and red satin. The satin bears the gold-embossed French inscription “Garanti Sublime,” indicating superior quality.

Given its age and the fragility of meerschaum, the pipe is in fine vintage condition. The case shows clearly visible signs of age and use, particularly wear along its edges. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they are an integral part of the description.
