Inlaid Writing Table, 19th Century

Elegant Louis XVI-style parlor table or writing desk with two drawers, from the Napoleonic III period, circa the second half of the 19th century.

A lovely rectangular table made of precious wood, richly adorned with marquetry of various wood species, featuring a geometric design of butterfly wings and delicate floral bouquets, particularly prominent on the tabletop and the drawer fronts.

The rectangular tabletop, with rounded corners, is entirely inlaid with an elegant floral design centered on a diamond-patterned background. It is surrounded by a substantial openwork gilt-bronze border featuring a motif of hearts and interlacing patterns, which elegantly accentuates the edge.

The front features two stacked drawers, adorned with rich floral and geometric marquetry. The upper drawer features a compartmentalized interior, reflecting its function as a writing desk. Both drawers are adorned with finely chiseled gilded bronze locks and handles.

The chamfered side rails are accented with gilt-bronze strips and moldings. They rest on four straight, slightly tapered legs, which end in very elegant, curved feet decorated with foliage and gilt-bronze feet.

The lower section features a cross-leg shelf, also richly inlaid with parquet work, bordered by an openwork gilt-bronze railing and accented by dynamic gilt-bronze molding.

The piece as a whole demonstrates exceptionally meticulous craftsmanship, featuring high-quality marquetry, abundant gilded bronze ornamentation, and remarkable attention to detail.
