An antique and rare perfume cabinet from the Palais-Royal.
This piece dates from the first half of the 19th century and is shaped like a small chariot pulled by two goats.
The ensemble rests on a rectangular white marble base.
The glass bottle, adorned with gilded decoration that is now partially worn away, is set in a finely openwork gilded metal frame, forming the carriage’s body and wheels.
The bottle retains its small inner glass stopper
This type of precious toiletries and decorative object was characteristic of the merchandise sold in the shops of the Palais-Royal in Paris, a major hub for the luxury goods trade in the early 19th century. Among the items found there were toiletries sets, perfume dispensers, bottles, cases, and display pieces combining crystal, mother-of-pearl, gilded bronze, and semi-precious stones.
