Terracotta Bust: Little Girl Wearing A Fox Skin, Inspired By 19th-century Fairy Tales
A charming terracotta bust depicting a young girl wearing a fox pelt, whose head and paws delicately frame her face.
With her mischievous expression, her smile, and her lively gaze, this young girl seems to have stepped straight out of a 19th-century fairy tale or folk legend. The expressive modeling of the face, the movement of the hair, and the realistic rendering of the fur are all evidence of fine sculptural craftsmanship.
The work bears an incised signature on the back, apparently “Bernard” or “Bernardi,” to be identified more precisely.
The bust rests on a blackened wooden pedestal. It features a beautiful antique patina and is in good overall condition. Note: A finger is missing from the right hand; this is barely noticeable and does not detract from the overall elegance of the piece.
A charming, original, and particularly decorative terracotta piece.
