Large Bowl With Birds Of Paradise, Kinkozan, Japan, Meiji Era (1868–1912).

Artist: Kinkōzan Sōbei Vii (1867–1927)
Large decorative ceramic bowl with a wavy, petal-shaped rim (kiku-gata—a stylized motif representing chrysanthemum petals). Made of Satsuma-style ceramic (stoneware) with a characteristic, finely crackled ivory-colored glaze. Richly decorated with multicolored glazes and dense gilding (moriage and applied gold). The main scene depicts two picturesque birds of paradise perched on a branch of a cherry tree in bloom (sakura).
All around, a geometric honeycomb pattern (kikko) with gilded medallions (mon) alternating with plant motifs (flowers, butterflies). On the reverse, a richly gilded rim and border, adorned with floral motifs, butterflies, and round medallions featuring gilded relief patterns.

Satsuma ware from Kyoto / Awata ware, Meiji period (1868–1912), Kinkōzan Sōbei VII (1867–1927). Signed: 大京都 日本 文山 錦光山 (Dai Kyōto / Nihon / Bunzan / Kinkōzan).
