Opaline Cup, Restoration Period

A circular "soapy" opaline bowl on a gilded bronze base. Resting on four lion’s-paw feet, the square base is engraved with water leaves. The pedestal, decorated with several rows of pearls and palmettes, supports a hemispherical bowl made of “soapy” opaline, a white glass that, when held up to the light, reveals reflections of various colors (blue, red, yellow, green). The rim of the bowl is protected by a chiseled gilded bronze gallery. On the sides, the bowl is fitted with two handles in the shape of crossed staffs, crafted from bronze, to facilitate handling.
