Jean Pointu, 1910. Baluster Vase In Stoneware, Carriès School, Model 158

Rare tapered baluster vase in stoneware from the Carriès School, created by Jean Pointu (1843–1925) in Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye around 1906–1910. This Art Nouveau-era piece showcases the workshop’s mastery of Japanese-inspired glazes, featuring superb marbled blue, brown, and green streaks on an earthy background. On the underside of the base, the vase bears the artist’s characteristic incised handwritten signature, “Jean .U,” as well as the form reference “158.” It measures 16 cm in height and 7.5 cm in diameter at its widest point. The piece is in excellent condition, with vibrant glazes. For complete transparency, please note a small chip from previous use located on the edge of the foot below the base. This minor flaw is completely invisible when the vase is standing, in no way detracts from the superb aesthetics or stability of this collectible piece, and is factored into the asking price.
