Reliquary Frame of the Sacred Heart – Work by a Carmelite, Bergerac, 1883

A charming little oval reliquary frame dating from the late 19th century.

In the center is the Sacred Heart of Jesus, crowned with thorns and surmounted by flames, set against a purple silk background. It is surrounded by a large, radiant halo made of gold thread.

Arranged all around are several relics accompanied by their labels, notably those of Saint Thérèse, Saint Firmin, Saint Calixte, Saint Francis de Sales, and Saint Placide, as well as relics of holy martyrs. The ensemble is embellished with small decorative bouquets and gilded ornaments, characteristic of conventual craftsmanship.

Presented under flat glass in an oval, blackened wooden frame, accented with a gilded interior molding.

A handwritten inscription on the back reads: “Made by the Carmelite in Bergerac in 1883.”

A beautiful object of popular devotion, preserved in its original condition. Some signs of wear and minor chips in the frame, visible in the photographs.
