Traditional Stiletto From Corsica
This knife is, doubtless, a traditional Corsican stiletto. It is simply crafted, but lacks the vengeful inscriptions often found on stilettos made for tourists market. Based on its style,I would date it to the 1920s
BLADE : This is the classic blade known as “genovese style,” with two offset cutting edges and the blade’s axis offset relative to the handle. At the shoulder of the blade is a notch called a “poucette,” ( = little small place for thumb )and near it, a small hole that is quite rare, but not entirely unusual. Some authors suggest this is a discreet symbolic representation of a protective eye. The blade joins the handle via a steel section, shaped like a baluster and called “noix” (=nut)
Blade length, including the “noix” = 13.3 cm; width at the shoulder = 1.7 cm; thicknessat the shoulder 1.7 cm
HANDLE: It is octagonal, made of hardwood, probably heather. The ferrule and pommel are made of white metal, probably ly nickel silver.
SCABBARD : It is made of wood, covered with a green velvet lining. The scabbard mouth and the chape are made of white metal, which is likely nickel silver
Although simply crafted, this stiletto is truly authentic. It will please to any lover of Corsica.
