Jean Garillon: Art Deco Bowl In Glazed Faience, Saint-cloud

A beautiful Art Deco bowl in by Jean Garillon, signed on the reverse with “Jean Garillon – St-Cloud” and “fait à la main.”

Circular in shape, it features an elegant relief decoration of small convex discs arranged in a regular pattern around the rim, repeated on the interior of the piece. The contrast between the deep green glaze, with blue-green undertones, and the gunmetal grey exterior surface particularly highlights its Art Deco character.

The piece is fully glazed and displays excellent quality in both material and glaze, with slight variations in hue characteristic of handcrafted work.

There are a few slight signs of wear, visible in the photos, particularly along the rim and on the base. No restoration.

Jean Garillon is the pseudonym of Ernest Jean Xavier Elchinger (1898–1981), a ceramist from the Elchinger family who worked primarily in Saint-Cloud.

An original and decorative piece, representative of French ceramics from the 1930s.
