Chape or ancient religious pluviale,a large, sleeveless liturgical cloak worn during processions,
blessings, and grand salutes of the Most Holy Sacrament.
White or beige symbolizes light, purity, joy, glory, and the victory of life over death.
The chape is worn at Christmas, Easter, on the feasts of Christ (except those of the Passion), and on the feasts of the Virgin Mary, the angels, and the saints who were not martyrs. It fastens at the front with a golden clasp or “fermail” connected by a chain.
On the front edges, the orfrois—two vertical bands of red velvet richly decorated with floral embroidery in gold thread.
On the shoulders, the chaperon—a remnant of the hood—is a dorned with a large Greek cross in red velvet embossed with the monogram IHS (Iesus Hominum Salvator) and floral motifs floral motifs in gold thread, topped with a red passementerie tassel. The interior is lined with orange satin.

Date: first half of the 20th century.
A few stains, mainly on the lower part; marks along the entire neckline and around the clasp; candle wax stains on the left should erand on the back.
No significant wear on the velvetor frayed gold threads; the lining is sun-faded at the bottom, with a few small holes.
