Silver-plated Metal And Cut-glass Planter, H. Beard, Montreux, Switzerland, Early 1900s
Elegant silver-plated metal planter by H. Béard, Montreux, Switzerland, circa 1910, retaining its original cut-glass inner tray.
Oval in shape, it features rich openwork and ornamentation, consisting of geometric friezes and repeated arches. The two handles, decorated with scrolls, frame the jardiniere, which rests on four legs, the front embellished with a foliage motif.
The inner glass liner fits snugly and has a flowing shape and undestated engraved decoration, with a star-cut bottom. The piece as a whole reflects the meticulous attention to detail in the decorative productions of the Béard firm, whose silver-plated metal creations were notably featured in grand hotels and luxury palaces.
H. Béard, Montreux, a firm founded in 1907.
