A beautiful gilded bronze animal sculpture depicting a hunting dog in an alert and expressive pose.
The sculpture bears the incised signature “A. DUBUCAND” as well as the foundry mark “E.V. 831” on the pedestal.
Alfred Dubucand (1828–1894) was a French animal sculptor renowned for the quality and realism of his depictions of animals, particularly dogs and hunting-related subjects. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon between 1867 and 1883. A French work from the last third of the 19th century.
