Mariano Benlliure is a Spanish sculptor, a precocious creator in both painting and sculpture. He trained in Valencia, Madrid, Paris, Rome, etc., and his name became more or less famous when he moved to Madrid in 1887, obtaining a first medal at the National Exhibition of that year. His healthy financial situation allowed him to have a great social life and meet the most prominent personalities of the time. He created numerous religious, civil and funerary works (Cabra, Madrid, Seville, Navarre, etc.), and his work is preserved in important private collections and institutions. -
