18th-century Delft Earthenware Tiles In A Frame
Decorative oak panel with Delft faience tiles
A large decorative oak panel, adorned with twelve Delft tiles in shades of blue, arranged around a central octagonal dish, possibly from the 17th century.
The twelve square tiles within an octagonal frame present a charming array of Dutch scenes: windmills, landscapes animated by figures and animals, shepherds, horse-drawn carriages, architecture, and river scenes. Each tile thus constitutes a small, self-contained painting, painted in blue on a white background.
In the center is a plate with a particularly rich floral decoration, composed of flowers, foliage, and ornamental motifs in the tradition of Dutch earthenware.
The tiles have been assembled into an oak panel specially designed to showcase them. The woodwork, punctuated by molded octagonal panels, evokes historicist designs inspired by 17th- and 18th-century Dutch interiors.
Probably dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, incorporating 18th-century earthenware elements.
In very good overall condition; one tile has shifted and needs to be repositioned.
