Pair Of Mythological Paintings, Oils On Canvas, Empire Period

Pair of Mythological Paintings – Bacchic Scenes –
France or Italy, circa 1800–1820.

A charming pair of oil paintings on canvas depicting two mythological scenes with a Bacchic theme.
The first painting shows a galloping faun playing a panpipe and leading a young woman draped in classical style, surrounded by a fluttering cupid and a verdant landscape.
The second depicts a heroic horseman wearing a cuirass,  his head encircled by the victor's laurel wreath. He is mounted on a lion and brandishes a lance adorned with vine leaves, while a female figure rests near an urn and a winged cupid holding a helmet traverses the sky.
The compositions, light and elegant, are fully in keeping with the Neoclassical taste of the years 1800–1820: slender figures, drapery inspired by Antiquity, and pastoral atmospheres inherited from Louis XVI/empire period  decorative art and Italian models.
It is probably possible to identify the figure on the lion: a king, a prince, a general who may have won a victory near a river?

Beautiful original patina, small restorations and old relining For the 2 paintings.

Bella patina originale, piccole restaurazioni e antichi rintelai.
