Elchinger is a family-owned business based in Alsace since 1792.
Generationafter generation has produced works
that are as varied as they are avant-garde.
Léon Elchinger (1871–1942) left a lasting impression with his
artistic stoneware pieces as well as magnificent Art Nouveau
and later Art Deco pottery, characterized by their stunning colors and brilliance.
He left behind aremarkable artistic legacy.
A student at the École des Arts Saint-Luc in Tournai, the École des
ArtsDécoratifs in Strasbourg, and the school in Höhr-Grenzhausen,
his son Fernand Elchinger (1911–1975)
took over management of the business in 1934.
He created ceramic collections that were highly regarded
by an international clientele.
He expanded the family business, turning it into
the leadingmanufacturer in Europe.
Like Chambost, Ruelland, Jouve, and Capron, Fernand Elchinger
would becomeone of the great ceramic artists of the mid-20th century.
From 1975 to the present, the Elchinger dynasty has beenrepresented
by Marc and then Thibaut Elchinger.
Production has shifted decisively towardhigh-end tableware
and home décor.
Internationally renowned designers create
vibrant, colorful collections that are always on-trend.
However, the factorypermanently closed its doors in 2016
after more than 200 years in operation and eight generations.
Nevertheless, the Céramiques Elchinger brand is still used
for its licensed products,and the
Elchinger Couturier de la Terre brand for its contemporary collections.
