Large Blue-and-white Fine Earthenware Dish With Chinese-style Decoration – 19th Century
Large rectangular serving platter with rounded corners, made of fine earthenware, decorated with a rich design printed in underglaze blue in the Chinese style.
The dish depicts a vast landscape animated by pavilions and Oriental architecture, surrounded by trees and vegetation.
A bridge crosses the composition in the foreground, while a boat appears on the left and two birds in flight enliven the sky.
The rim is highlighted by a wide, intricately crafted border combining geometric motifs, foliage, flowers, and stylized ornaments.
The various shades of blue and the profusion of details create a beautiful decorative effect characteristic of European productions inspired by Far Eastern porcelain.
This type of decoration, highly prized in the 19th century, follows the tradition of fine English earthenware with Chinese-style decoration, particularly landscapes derived from the famous “Willow” style.
The reverse side is left white and, according to the photographs, bears no visible manufacturer’s mark.
A beautiful display piece, suitable for both a collection of antique earthenware and for use as wall or table decor.
