Friedrich Horner was a Swiss artist born in Basel in 1800 and died in 1864.He took drawing lessons with Rudolf Müller, then traveled and painted in Paris, Munich, Naples, and later in Greece and Turkey; he settled in Rome in 1838 and returned to Basel in 1848.Horner was highly regarded by collectors in London, Paris, and Vienna for the delicacy of his landscapes and, in particular, for his depictions of ancient ruins. The Basel Museum of Fine Arts houses a portion of his works.
