Antique Helmet-shaped Lantern, For Use Outside A Castle Or Indoors, Early 19th Century
A unique antique helmet-shaped lantern that opens at the front, featuring a domed glass pane. Empire style, dating from the Empire or Restoration periods, early 19th century, circa 1820.
During the Empire period, this type of lantern was used to illuminate castle hallways by placing a candle inside it. Today, it can serve as an elegant outdoor lantern when mounted on a building’s facade.
In good overall condition; the domed glass has a crack, but it is not significant and is barely noticeable when the lantern is mounted at a height.
The lantern should be repainted to match the house’s color scheme.
