Pair Of Louis XVI-era Wood Paneling Panels For Ceilings, Beams, Or Walls, 18th Century
A pair of carved and lacquered wood paneling elements, consisting of a large rosette in high relief and two cascades of oak leaves and acorns, held in place by a ribbon. This is a masculine and martial motif, with the oak tree evoking Mars, the god of war. A Louis XVI-era piece, circa 1780.
These high-quality architectural elements have several possible uses: as the essential narrow connector between two panels—which is nearly impossible to find—as well as side ornaments for a trumeau above a fireplace, or even as a ceiling or beam ornament to be hung.
Very fine quality carving, delicate and dynamic.
Good overall condition; needs repainting with some touch-ups to the plasterwork or stripping.
Length: 153 cm
Width: 20 cm
