Crystal Goblet With Amber And Opaline Overlay, Gilded Frieze Depicting A Mythological Scene - Saint Louis

A double-layered oval crystal goblet, one layeramber-colored and covered two-thirds of the way up by another layer of white opaline. The topis adorned with a wide gilded frieze—in both matte and glossy gold—depictinga mythological scene waiting to be discovered: a winged Victory faces a chariotdrawn by four rearing horses, men in armor, a man holding a lion on a leash, andother figures against a background of arabesques.
The base is cut with fourteen rounded facetsaccented by a line of gilding and points.
At the top, an opaline border is highlighted along the edge by agilded fillet.
An exceptional piece in terms of its color, the fineness of its crystal,its gilding, and its craftsmanship; it likely originates from the SaintLouis crystalworks.
Late 19th century or very early 20th century.
Very good condition, with minor scratches from use on the underside.
