Ceremonial Display Cabinet Made Of Carved Wood From Indochina, Vietnam, Tonkin, Asia, 19th Century

A spectacular display cabinet, entirely carved andopenwork; the high-relief carvings depict imperial dragons, shrews,stylized plants and flowers, bunches of grapes, and symbolic motifs inspiredby Chinese iconography.The top of the display cabinet features a pagoda with multiple levelsof roofing, and an openwork base topped by a sculpture in the round of a lionor Fô dog.
The solid central door, scalloped at the bottom, consists of apanel carved in high relief depicting an imperial dragon soaring amongstylized clouds.
Another dragon—the Imperial Dragon pursuing the pearlof immortality, carved in very high relief—crowns the upper leftside shelf.
The upper right section consists of a display cabinet with aand side openings, and an openwork shelf
The wide base of the piece, supported by curved legs withscrollwork, is accented by a frieze carved with sacred geometric motifs ona curved band as well.
