A very interesting ink drawing depicting the “Patent for the Invention and Improvement of L. Constantin’s Grand Mechanical Planetarium by Antoine Grollier, a student at the Christian School of Billom, 1839.”
At that time, the creation of industrial, scientific, or architectural drawings served as a graduation project or a demonstration of graphic skills.
This is a fine example of celestial mechanics, for which Louis Constantin (1788–1838) had filed a patent three years earlier. This device was nicknamed “Constantine” in educational circles.
