Oil On Parchment, *christ Mocked*, By A Late Mannerist Artist From Liguria, Second Half Of The 16th Century

An interesting and refined depiction of *Christ Mocked*, executed in oil on parchment by a late Mannerist artist from the Ligurian-Genoese school during the second half of the 16th century, likely in the workshop of the Castello brothers, Giovanni Battista and Bernardo, who, in addition to creating important murals and panel paintings, were dedicated to producing works for private devotion and for aristocratic collections—works that often involved the use of parchment to be placed in private or travel-sized altarpieces.

It is interesting and atypical from an iconographic standpoint, featuring a single soldier attacking Christ with a certain degree of violence, the crown of thorns lies on the ground, indicating a deeply devout meditation on the part of the patron
