‘love’ In Bronze, From The Workshop Of Niccolò Roccatagliata – 17th Century
Artist: Atelier De Niccolò Roccatagliata (gênes, 1539 - Venise, 1636)
A figure of an angel with a bow, in patinated bronze, depicted standing and walking, with a bow in his hand resting on the ground and his quiver resting symmetrically on his back. The figure’s circular movement is accentuated by his left arm, which wraps round his torso, thus creating the sinuous form characteristic of late Venetian Mannerism. The casting and original patina of this bronze are of such high quality that, despite the object’s small size, it bears a close resemblance to the master’s work.
