Parisian Cashmere Shawl By Barras – Circa 1850
Artist: Brasse
A square cashmere shawl of exceptionally fine weave, featuring a refined palette of six colors: a lovelysky blue, mustard yellow, pink, green, red, and black. Dating from the Second Empire,it bears the signature of Anthony Berrus, a Paris-based designer and one of themost inventive and renowned artists of the 19th century. His work was widely imitated by other shawl manufacturers in Paisley, Vienna, and Lyon. There is a small area of wear—barely noticeable and carefully photographed—which in no way compromises the structural integrity of this superb collector’s item. Furthermore, the shawl is in excellent condition and its colors are remarkable.
