Napoleon III-style Sideboard With Boulle Marquetry, Curved On All Sides
Artist: Edm Flandrin
A piece of furniture from the second half of the 19th century, dating from the Napoleon III period, known as a “handrest-height” piece, with a very attractive (and pronounced) curve on three sides.
The front of the piece is decorated with sumptuous Boulle marquetry featuring chiseled brass set against a deep red tortoiseshell background, depicting floral motifs, scrolls, volutes, and interlacing patterns framing a bouquet in a vase.
The rest of the piece is decorated with brass fillets. The piece features exquisite chiseled and gilded bronze ornaments, including foot spouts, an espagnolette lock at the top, a lock plate, escutcheons, rosettes, patterned moldings, and a panel on the lower crossbar. The interior is entirely mahogany-veneered with two height-adjustable shelves.
The cabinet is topped with a white Carrara marble slab, finely molded around its perimeter and featuring a corbin spout and groove.
Very important: The cabinet is in perfect condition, fully restored and refinished with a buffing technique, entirely period-correct, with bronze hardware, a lock with a key that works perfectly, and its marble top in perfect condition (no cracks).
