Qadjar XIX Persian Candy Box
It features engraved or chiseled figurative scenes (Galamzani) depicting figures in traditional Persian attire (musicians, courtly figures, wine drinkers), surrounded by floral scrollwork and animals and on the plate a hunting scene This preference for human depictions on metalwork is characteristic of the Qajar period. The object was coated with a layer of tin (or sometimes silver plating/white metal) to give it this dark metallic grey appearance, a very common finishing technique for metalwork in Persia. A black oxidation product was applied to the recesses of the engravings to make the motifs stand out by contrast.
