Porcelain vase, wheel-thrown. Decorated with Chinese emblems and antiquities in powdered gold on a cobalt-blue glazed background. Vases of this shape, with a bulbous neck that flares out at the top—sometimes called “Garlic” vases—are rare. It was created in the kilns of Jingdezhen in the late 17th century or very early 18th century during the reign of Emperor Kangxi. A bronze mount transformed it into a lamp during the reign of Napoleon III, or in the late 19th century. Since the mount is glued on, we did not take the risk of removing it, but the vase is definitely pierced. Total height: 50 cm. Vase only: 30 cm
