Notre Dame De Paris In The 19th Century

A beautiful, large oil-on-canvas painting from the late 19th century or very early 20th century depicting Notre Dame de Paris, as seen from the Seine.
One can see all the hustle and bustle of the city surrounding this iconic monument.  Workers on the quays unloading goods from steamboats, the crowd on the bridges, an omnibus, a horse-drawn carriage making its way through the traffic, and plumes of smoke rising from the chimneys of boats and buildings. In short, a wealth of details that bring this painting to life.
It is an oil on canvas signed “G. Mascart” for Gustave Mascart.
The beautiful frame, typical of the period, is made of stuccoed and gilded wood in good condition and effectively highlights the scene in the painting.
The canvas has just been cleaned, dusted, and re-varnished. The unsightly old repainting has been removed, and the existing small tears have been repaired. All of this was carried out by our professional painting restorer. This work has brightened the scene and breathed new life into the entire piece.
