Édouard Joseph Goerg, a renowned French Expressionist artist. He left his mark on his era as a painter, illustrator, and printmaker. He developed an figurative style that is immediately recognizable. His practice spanned various media, with a central focus on engraving and lithography.
A deeply committed artist, he denounced the excesses of the bourgeois elite, the horrors of war, and fascist oppression through his works. Women, however, remained one of his favorite subjects.
The work is characteristic of his early creative period. In it, he employs a biting social satire and a sharp graphic style to criticize the rituals and pretense of the upper middle class of the time
