Green Glass Bridal Spindle - Southern France, 18th Century - 18th-century Folk Art
An 18th-century bridal spindle made of green glass, featuring a flared, solid stem topped by a pinched collar, followed by hollow bulges adorned with four hot-fused pinched cords, beneath an open top sphere.
This was a symbolic gift given to newlyweds in south of France. A similar example is held at the Museum of Art and History in Grasse, and another at the Sorèze Glass Museum.
It should be noted that the size of this model is quite unusual compared to other known examples, which are generally 10 to 15 centimeters larger.
There are two missing pieces to note, located on the collar and affecting one of the cords.
